Páramo is pleased to announce that Paul Gath has won the Spirit of Adventure award in David Noton’s f11 photography competition, sponsored by Páramo. Paul is now the proud owner of a Páramo Halcon jacket.
“I’m really pleased and honoured to win this competition and add the Halcon jacket to my growing list of Páramo gear. The winning photo was taken in Halong Bay, Vietnam and as you can imagine, there wasn’t much need to a winter coat on that trip!”
“I love travelling to photograph people and landscapes of the world. The trip to South East Asia included two weeks in Myanmar. The shot below shows how the people of Myanmar still fish in a traditional and sustainable way.
“Of course, travel photography is not all sunshine and heat. I’ve just returned from a trip to the Lofoten Islands, in the arctic part of Norway. Lofoten is a photographer’s paradise and must be one of the most beautiful places on earth.
“You certainly need to wrap up warm when the snow hits. We climbed to the top of a hill overlooking Reine just as a blizzard struck. I was glad of my Páramo base layers and jacket; it took almost an hour for the snow storm to pass. I hope this guy was wearing Páramo as well, although I suspect not because he went home before the storm passed!
“I would like to thank Páramo for supporting photographers through competitions like this one.”

David Noton comments “Something about the shape of the hills with the tiny boat and figures is just so familiar to anyone like myself who has travelled extensively in south-east Asia. This picture for me evokes very powerfully the spirit of adventure that underpins all photographic travels. It’s also a beautiful use of black and white.
f11 Member Paul Gath is a worthy winner in the Spirit of Adventure Category of the Your Vision 2016 Photography Competition, which is run every year in our Chasing the Light Online Magazine. The Chasing the Light Online Magazine is published monthly by David Noton Photography exclusively for our registered f11 Members, and features a wealth of photographic articles, videos and tutorials spanning the globe to inspire and inform.”
Congratulations Paul, Great to hear that David rates your images so highly.
At least it shows that my appreciation of your images is not misplaced.
Keep up the good work.
